Fedora Linux on PS3 w/ Voiceover

This the same as my first vid of Fedora Linux on the PS3, but for all those with questions, I decided to do a version of the video with full voiceover explanations. And Ebay believes installing open source software on an open platform (as is stated on Sony's site) is a "copyright violation". Apparently they don't understand open source...so my auction of this unit was cancelled without notification. Thanks, Ebay.

Beryl Project

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD7QraljRfM

What is the Beryl Project?

Beryl is an OpenGL accelerated desktop that seeks to provide a free, open source desktop experience to the community that reflects the wishes of the users. Above all else, the project seeks to listen to and respond to the requests of the user base.

Beryl is a combined window manager and composite manager written in C using OpenGL to provide acceleration. It is designed to be highly flexible, extensible, and portable, all the while keeping in mind that the users know how they want their desktops to act better than we do. With Beryl the rather esoteric concept of the computer desktop is brought down to a more human level, allowing for a more native and intuitive understanding of your workspace. Ubuntu 7.04 Running Windows XP and compiz

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01OqyzEyV9M

Just me screwing around with Fiesty Fawn ubuntu running windows xp using qemu. I also have compiz running for the 3d effects.

QEMU

QEMU is a fast processor emulator, allowing full virtualization of a PC system within another one. It is free software and was written by Fabrice Bellard. QEMU is a hypervisor and is similar to projects such as Bochs, VMware Workstation and PearPC, but has several features these lack, including increased speed on x86 (through an optional accelerator), and support for multiple architectures in-progress. By using dynamic translation it achieves a reasonable speed while being easy to port on new host CPUs.

This is Xgl/Compiz(now known as Beryl Project) running on my secondary comp which is a 4 year old dell with 2.4 ghz P4 proc, Nvidia 6600 GT gfx card, and only 512 megs of RAM.The music is Sidology Ep 2: Trinity, By Machinae Supremacy.

This Linux install was SuSE 10.1 and I now use Sabayon Linux. Which you can get here:http://www.sabayonlinux.org Three versions include Mini CD install, Full x86 32bit install and Full x86 64bit install DVDs!The theme is a custom theme; which unfortunately I lost when my main hardrive died on me. :(However, you can get the wallpaper I used from my box.net account here:

It, along with several of the others below, I made myself by splicing a mirrored version of the original and modifying it slightly so the two sides don't appear as perfect replicas of each other.

What is distro?

A distribution, or distro, is a collection of software, and is use to refer to any big collection of software. For example, a X distribution, or a TeX distribution. The word distribution, however, is commonly used to refer to a distribution of a operating system which uses Linux as the kernel, and commonly GNU programs as the base operating system. Distributions also include configuration for the software, the layout of the file system hierarchy (see Filesystem Hierarchy Standard), additional software or scripts to maintain the operating system, and repositories for getting more software.

http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/Distribution

A Linux distribution or GNU/Linux distribution (or a distro) is a Unix-like operating system comprising software components such as the Linux kernel, the GNU toolchain, and assorted free and open source software. Some proprietary software is found in certain distributions and is not free software. A Linux Distribution — or distro, en parlante — is created by individuals, groups and organizations from around the world.

In marketing, distribution is the process of moving a product from its manufacturing source to its customers. In computer software, distribution is the phase that follows packaging. The package will be on some distribution medium, such as
compact disc, or may be simply located on a server where customers can download it electronically.
